ALFRED, Maine – What is the population of York County, according to estimates from the U.S. Census? What is the poverty rate?
How many people visited the Registry of Probate - located in the historic York County Court House in Alfred - in person in 2023? Did you know you can file an application for a U.S. passport there?
What was the number of cases presented to the York County District Attorney’s Office by law enforcement agencies in 2023?
How many York County Commissioners are there, anyway? How are their districts divided? What is their role?
What new initiatives have been spearheaded? Hint: there are three major ones.
What are the functions of each county government department?
York County residents and those contemplating a visit or a move to Maine’s first, and oldest (1636!) county can find the answers to these questions and a host of others by reading and reviewing the 2023 York County Annual Report. It is presented in a digital format, and county officials say a limited number of printed reports will soon be available.
The report is full of photos, facts and figures about commissioners, the registries of deeds and probate, the district attorney’s office, the sheriff’s office including rural patrol, jail and civil process, facilities, the IT department that keeps all the technology humming, the emergency management agency, administration, human resources, finance, budget summaries, forthcoming initiatives, and more.
“We encourage you to read this report and learn about all facets of York County government,” said York County Manager Greg Zinser.
