York County Staff Spotlight: Kathryn Dumont

Updated: Jul 17

Where did you grow up and go to school?

I grew up in South Berwick and went to Central School and Marshwood Jr. High and High School. I obtained my Associate’s Degree in Business Science from McIntosh College in Dover, New Hampshire.

What prompted you to decide to seek employment with York County government?

I was made aware that there was an opening and I thought county government sounded interesting.

How long have you worked for county government and in what capacities? What is your current title?

I started my 17th year on June 16th. I am the administrative assistant to the County Manager.

What did you do before joining York County government?

I worked at a law firm in York, Maine.

What do you like most about your current job?

I do many different tasks throughout the day, so I never get bored. There are many departments that we assist in county government. Therefore, I could be preparing budget documents to be mailed out to our 29 cities and towns in the morning, and taking notes in the afternoon at committee meetings for our two new projects - the York County Recovery Center and York County First Responder Training Center.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do?

I love spending time with my family, especially my four grandchildren. I love to garden and see the excitement from my grandsons when they find red tomatoes and blueberries to pick and eat. I also love flowers and look forward to our peonies blooming in June every year. I love to read and to try out new restaurants and to travel. My dream retirement trip is to go to Greece with my daughter.
