Travis Jones, Interim Sergeant - York County Sheriff's Office
Where did you grow up and go to school?
I was born in Maine and then moved to Minnesota, where I graduated from Fergus Falls High School. Afterward, I went to Fort Leonard Wood MI for the US Army Reserves to become a Combat Engineer. I was attached to a unit in Fargo, ND. I attended Moorhead State University for Criminal Justice.
What prompted you to decide to seek employment with York County Government?
After I moved back to Maine, I applied to local police departments to start my career in law enforcement. The idea of rural patrol appealed to me, after living in a city. I liked the idea of having a large area to learn and patrol.
How long have you worked for county government and in what capacities? What is your current title?
I have worked for York County since 2000 as a Reserve Deputy and was hired full time in 2004. I am currently the Interim Sergeant for one of the evening patrol shifts.
What did you do before joining York County Government?
I worked as an arborist for the City of Fargo and did computer consulting before moving back to Maine. I worked for Shaw’s Supermarkets in their Loss Prevention Department, where I became one of their regional managers for Maine/New Hampshire.
What do you like most about your current job?
Being an Interim Sergeant has given me an opportunity to supervise a shift. I have been able to develop relationships with the deputies that I supervise, and it has been a very effective team. Having added responsibilities has provided new challenges that I enjoy.
When you’re not working, what do you like to do?
I enjoy spending time with my wife and two adult children. We have traveled the country and abroad. We love to hiking and camping all over New England. I can always be found looking for a pickleball court to play on.
